History: An affiliate of the New York Yankees, the ‘61 Gold Sox featured future star Joe Pepitone as well as a young Jim Bouton, who became especially famous after writing the book Ball Four about his career in baseball. Behind Pepitone and Bouton, Amarillo won the ‘61 Texas League pennant with a record of 90-50, but lost to the Austin Senators in the first round of the playoffs.
